About Skinny Tan
Skinny Tan is a UK based tanning sensation that has taken Australia by storm, stocking their products on the shelves of all the major chains throughout Australia. The two minds behind Skinny Tan are ‘mum-trepreneurs’ Kate Cotton and Louise Ferguson, growing up in 1980’s Essex UK, they were determined to crush the dreadful reputation of self tanning and create a self tanning product that would be indistinguishable from the real thing.
The formula had performed extremely well in Australia and it was time to bring it back to home grounds and share the secrets of natural tanning here in the UK.
Once returned to the UK, the two entrepreneurs made a successful appearance on the popular BBC TV show ‘Dragons Den’ and the products performed so well that it left all the Dragons desperate to invest in the brand. It was clear from that point the formula that was used to create Skinny Tan was a winning formula that could change the way people perceive fake tanning.
The Skinny Tan products excited all of the dragons but the battle came to an end when Kelly Hoppen and Piers Linney won the dragon fight and are now working closely with Kate and Louise to help them tp develop the brand and their revolutionary tanning products.
The secret to self tanning is down to the method you use to apply the solution, if applied correctly you will give your skin the all natural tanned look and wont be left looking oompa loompa orange.
Tip No.1 – Exfoliation First
Our number 1 tip for fake tanning is to prepare your skin - the better your canvas is to start with, the better your tan will be! Using any scrub or loofah to help remove dull, dead and old skin cells, create a smooth surface to apply the tanning solution. By doing this it means that the new skin cells won't shed as fast, allowing the tan to last longer on the skin. Massaging the area vigorously can stimulate blood flow which can result in the reduction of cellulite. Be aware that you should not apply the tanning solution directly after prepping the skin as the skin needs time to cool down. Also make sure there is no oil or residue from other products as these act as a barrier and will effect the results.
Tip No.2 - Natural Tanning
Before Skinny Tan you could only find tanning products that contain a skin damaging chemical called DHA which also has an awful smell. All of the products at Skinny Tan use natural ingredients and are made with a seed tanner and Guarana that combined with the tanner help make cellulite look visibly smoother.
Tip No.3 – Layering
If you are pale or fair skinned it is advised to choose a medium shade of Skinny Tan and apply it a few times to achieve a darker shade. By doing this you are allowing a slower increase in shades, avoiding the oompa loompa look. Skinny Tan self-tanners build like a natural tan would and it also fades as a natural tan would. Each application layer will take the skin tone two shades darker that the layer before.
Tip No.4 – Prolong your colour
To keep your tan for as long as possible it is advised to keep the skin moisturised. You can do this by drinking water and moisturising the skin with other natural skin care products.
