Your pH Balance: the Key to Radiant Skin
pH, or potential Hydrogen, is a measure of how acidic or alkaline a substance is, from 0 (highly acidic) to 14 (highly alkaline). Your skin’s pH balance relies on the skin’s acid mantle, a fine film that consists of oils, fatty, lactic and amino acids, as well as your skin’s natural hydrating factor. This film protects it against external influences such as bacteria, allergens and pollution, while maintaining moisture. Skin’s best balance is naturally maintained at a slightly acidic pH level of around 5.5, but can be unbalanced by numerous environmental factors.
While skin is best maintained at a slightly acidic level, over-application of acidic products without moisturisation can disruptively strip the skin of its natural oils and defenses.
Age and environmental stressors degenerate your skin’s acid mantle, reducing its protection and potentially causing blemishes, wrinkles, pigmentation and dryness.
Actively Restoring Your Skin’s Balance
Derived from dairy products, Lactic Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) that’s been a highly valued skincare component since ancient times. Although she couldn’t have known, Cleopatra’s legendary milk baths and cream face masks were revitalising her skin with this precious ingredient. This naturally derived compound and other AHAs have recently been linked to the skin’s natural exfoliation process, and a resulting improvement in the appearance of wrinkles. AHAs have consequently gained huge popularity with skincare experts, beauty and health spas and a wide range of at-home products. Here, it aims to address your skin’s alkaline imbalance, restoring equilibrium with a light acidic touch.
To balance Lactic Acid’s natural exfoliating qualities, Skin Doctors have added nutritious Avocado Fruit Extract, highly regarded for its moisturising properties. Avocado is also rich in Vitamin E, which is known to contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, and has been the subject of significant recent research into its numerous revitalising properties. For these compelling reasons, Avocado Extract is included to soothe, moisturise, and fortify your skin, leaving it blissfully purified and hydrated.
Lactic Acid and Avocado Fruit Extract are also blended with coconut oil-derived compounds and other cleansing and foaming agents to bring you a cooling and cleansing cream. Together, these valuable ingredients will help purify your skin from daily environmental stressors and prime it for enriching serums. Its inclusion in your regime can refresh in the morning and restore in the evening, so that your skin is continually balanced throughout the day.
