Collagen and the skin
Made of long segments of amino acids arranged like a chain, Collagen is a main structural protein in the skin. In young skin, there is usually ample levels of Collagen, meaning it looks smooth, tight and firm. In older skin and that which has been exposed to physical or environmental stress however, the levels of collagen can be significantly reduced. This results in many of the signs of ageing, including fine lines, wrinkles and crow's feet. For this reason, many seek to replenish the collagen levels in the skin to make it look healthier, which is why it has become a common, yet premium, ingredient in many cosmetic and skincare products.
Why choose Marine Collagen over conventional Collagen?
Also called fish Collagen, Marine Collagen is a protein extracted from the scales of saltwater fish and contains molecules called peptides. These peptides are known for having a low molecular size and weight and because of this, Marine Collagen is said to be absorbed 1.5 times more efficiently than other types of collagen including bovine and porcine. As a result of this, the link between these peptides and collagen synthesis (the rate in which the body produces collagen) and the quality has been widely studied. For more information on this research, click here. Furthermore, these Marine Collagen Peptides (MCPs) have been studied regarding how they can help to improve skin properties. According to this research, it is also suggested that Marine Collagen is especially ideal for those who are following a high-antioxidant skincare regime. Find out more on this here.
Active components of the formula
This particular form of hydrolysed Collagen is a premium sourced specifically derived from Tilapia and Pangasius fish from areas of North and South America and Asia. What makes the NatiCol® Marine Collagen so special compared to other conventional forms of collagen is how it contains 8 different essential amino acids and it low molecular weight.
Not only is Aloe Vera a favourite for topical skincare, it is also used for the body when taken as part of a supplement. This is because it’s active compounds have been researched regarding their protective properties and their interaction with free radicals. It have also been studies for its support of the absorption of Vitamin C in the body. Click here or here for more.
Known as a key nutrient for the skin, Vitamin C is also known to contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress and to normal collagen formation for normal function of the skin. It’s known as well to contribute to normal collagen formation for the normal function of bones, cartilage and gums for their health and maintenance.
Also called Ubiquinone, Coenzyme Q10 is a vitamin-like substance produced in the body. The body can synthesise CO-Q10 from the food we eat, however as we age it is said to lose this ability which is why it can be found in natural health and beauty products. There has also been studies regarding CO-Q10 and the ageing process. For more, click here.
Known also as Hyaluronan, Hyaluronic Acid contributes towards healthy looking skin and can be naturally found in the body in young skin. As the body ages and through environmental factors however, the levels begin to drop and the skin can become weaker. This is why it is a common ingredient in skincare products to help replenish the naturally occurring levels.
Not only is Zinc an important mineral for general health and wellbeing, it can also help with the maintenance of healthy skin. Zinc is known to contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress and to normal protein synthesis (oxidative stress has been seen to be key factor that can lead to the unwanted signs of premature aging.)
